Growing up in a Malayalam medium school, Hindi was less a language and more a puzzle with missing pieces. I even dreamt once that when our carpenter came home to fix a table and I took time to open the door, I said “mein bath kar raha tha“. So naturally, when I tried using Hindi in real life, it was less Shuddh Hindi and more Shouldn’t Hindi.

The clip I’ve uploaded today (to celebrate 1k followers on my YouTube channel) is a bit from one of my stand-up sets at the Underground Comedy Club—a small tribute to all the glorious faux pas my entire family and I made trying to speak the raashtra bhasha. The journey, to say the least, has been nothing short of grammatically violent.

Language mix-ups are funny, sometimes embarrassing, but always memorable.

Check out the clip. Laugh with me (or at me). Either way, I won’t mind—as long as you don’t correct my Hindi.
